Wilma Nell Geston Haddock, Nell, was born July 11, 1937 in Sacramento, CA, to Cecil Harvey Geston and Wilma Nell Whiton Geston (McFarlan). Nell passed away on February 8, 2026 at the at the age of 88 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Nell's early years were spent California where she often wandered the hills playing, picking flowers, and entertaining herself with rocks, plants and other adventures. When at home she was surrounded by loving family including her Grandma Stella Hicks and Uncle Marion Hicks of whom she often told stories. By 1947 the family had relocated to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Nell graduated High School at Klamath Union High School in 1954 and went on to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse from West Suburban Hospital School for Nurses, Chicago, Illinois, in 1958. She returned to Klamath Falls and married her sweetheart, David Lee Haddock, in December of 1958. Four children and a full life followed. David, recently Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy attended college at Oregon State University and Washington State University then took a position with the U.S. Forest Service which led to many moves throughout the years and eventually led them to Pendleton, Oregon where they remained throughout his retirement.
Nell and David both loved the outdoors and spent as much time as they could camping, hunting, fishing and rockhounding. Nell especially enjoyed botany and herbology and could often be found foraging for beneficial plants, delicate wildflowers and pretty rocks. She and David both enjoyed music and singing and participated in the choir in the churches they attended often singing beautiful duets. Having a special gift with babies, she could often be found volunteering in the church nursery as well where she eventually earned her nickname "Nanna" because the babies could not pronounce Aunt Nell; when grandchildren arrived the nicknames "Nanna and Bappa" remained. After their own kids were grown, they took on the ministry of the church youth group and introduced yet another generation to the joys of the outdoors. Nell was especially gifted at hand crafts and, when indoors, could usually be found with a project in hand. Her knit and crocheted afghans, beaded ornaments, and cross stitch are works of art and are treasured gifts to all who received them.
Nell was preceded in death by her beloved husband David in January of 2025, their Daughter Marilea Haddock Hernandez, their Son Boone Haddock, and their Grandson Christopher Haddock Sanders. They are survived by her Daughter Marilea's husband Juan Hernandez and their sons Scott and Sean; Son Stephen and his Wife Janet Haddock and their children, Ben, Joe and Kodria and her family; her Daughter Rebekah, her sons Ivan Andrew Pointer and Matthew Glen Sanders and their children and families; and a large and beloved assortment of extended family including many Nieces and Nephews.
A joint memorial service for David and Nell will be held at a later date. Having a deep love and concern for babies and young children, it was Nell's desire that donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
