Obituary for Wayne Carlton Stenlund, 84, passed away on September 11, 2025

Wayne was born in Longview, Washington to Mervin and Peggy Stenlund on April 9, 1941. After graduating from LaCenter High School in 1959, he joined the Navy and was very proud of his service. He worked for the phone company, first in Chula Vista, California starting as a truck driver and then a lineman. In 1978 he moved the family to Hazel Dell, Washington to have the opportunity to become a manager for the phone company. He moved to Woodland, Washington in 1990, He worked for the phone company until the mid 1990’s then worked as a subcontractor doing the same job for an additional 10 years.

He met Mary Surenok in 1962 and they married in 1963, they celebrated their 60th anniversary just two months before she passed away in 2023. They had four children who loved them very much. Wayne had a passion for working and showing his Siberian Huskies and later Papillons. Way-Mar Kennels was a combination of Wayne and Mary’s names. He was able to accomplish a lot of things with the dogs including producing multiple Best In Show and Best In Specialty winning dogs. The dogs were in movies, commercials and print advertising too. He also enjoyed referring high school and junior high school basketball and softball over the years. He enjoyed traveling, camping and hiking.

Wayne is proceeded in death by is parents, his son Larry Wayne, His Wife, Mary, and his sister Connie.

Wayne is survived by is brother, Barry Stenlund, his children Gary Stenlund, Karen Stenlund Hamm and JoAnn Hatch, and his nine grandchildren and their spouses.
