Thurman “Bud” Vires, of Battle Ground, Washington, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 and joined his wife, Sally, in Heaven. He was born on November 11, 1936, to John and Grace Vires in Van Lear, Kentucky.

He was the middle of seven sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his sisters Reda Winters of Louisville, Kentucky, and Joan Phelps of Lexington, Kentucky; his five children and their spouses, Cheryl O’Dell, Terry & Michelle Vires, Deanna & Tony Matison, Russell & Terri Jo Vires, and Timothy & Michelle Vires; along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Bud proudly served in the United States Army. He drove for North American Van Lines for 50 years as an owner/operator truck driver. He loved his Westerns (especially if it had John Wayne), sitting and watching the birds, and traveled to 49 of the 50 states (he didn’t want to see Hawaii).

He will be remembered for his sharp humor, deep love for his family, and a stubbornness that was unmistakably his own. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
