In Loving Memory of Tom Kelsey
Tom Kelsey was born on August 6, 1952, in Oxnard, California, to Halford Earl and Lillian Abbott Kelsey. He died peacefully at home on July 5, 2025 in Vancouver, Washington. He grew up in Camarillo, graduating from Camarillo High School in 1970, where his love of baseball took root early. He played Little League and built a vast collection of baseball cards. Over the years, Tom wore many hats: cook, electronics assembler, and staffer at the Columbian newspaper. Around 1990, he moved to Washington to be close to his parents and extended family. That choice brought him closer to the people he held dearest.
Known for his tender heart and generous spirit, Tom was a kind soul whose affection ran deep for those he loved. “Uncle Tom” was a cherished visitor who brought laughter, stories, and unwavering support to his nieces and nephews. He delighted in recounting tales from days past, imparting hard-earned wisdom through the lens of experience. Despite the obstacles he faced, Tom’s resilient and upbeat nature left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Yet beneath that gentle exterior was an unshakable core. Tom was a man of fierce conviction, stubborn in a way that fueled his fight against life’s hardest battles. His adamant rebellion helped him triumph over addiction and any force that threatened his view of the world, no matter how small. In his final challenge, he faced kidney failure and a failing cardiovascular system with the same unrelenting determination. For ten consecutive years, he completed dialysis with pride and vowed to reach twenty. His sheer force of will defied every expectation set by his doctors and the limitations of his own body. No one could tell Tom what to do, not even biology.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind a devoted family: brother Chris Kelsey (Jonell), sister Linda Kelsey, nephews Adam (Angela), Ryan, and Shane Kelsey, niece Emilia Lois (Gregg), grandnephew Sylas Kelsey, and grandnieces Lillian and Catherine Lois.
Tom will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of kindness, grit, and storytelling endures in the hearts of those who loved him.
A special thanks to Victor, Maria, and Sarah. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thanks to Eden Hospice who were our angels during a difficult transition.
