Shawn Patrick "Ooops" MacPherson

March 16,1963 – December 10, 2025

Vancouver, Washington

Shawn Patrick "Ooops" MacPherson, 62, passed away on December 10, 2025, in Longview, Washington. Born on March 16, 1963, in Portland, Oregon, Shawn lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Shawn was a proud graduate of Battle Ground High School in Battle Ground, Washington, where he earned his diploma with honors. His pursuit of knowledge continued at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, and later through rigorous training at the U.S. Naval Nuclear Field 'A' School & Nuclear Power School in Idaho Falls, Idaho—an education that laid the foundation for a distinguished career in both military and civilian sectors.

From July 1983 to July 1989, Shawn served honorably in the United States Navy as a Electrician’s Mate First Class (E6), specializing as a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor (Electrical NEC 3364) aboard the USS Grayling SSN646. His naval service not only shaped his technical expertise but also ignited a lifelong passion for scuba diving and global exploration.

Following his military service, Shawn embarked on a long and accomplished civilian career. He joined UPS in June 1990 and dedicated over three decades to the company. While working at UPS, Shawn and Debbie reconnected and started dating in 1993. They married in June 1995, settling in Vancouver, Washington where they raised their children. Shawn held various roles at UPS—from Package Handler to Plant Engineering Supervisor and Regulated Goods Coordinator. His leadership extended into health and safety supervision and air ramp operations. After leaving UPS in November 2023, he brought his extensive knowledge to the Federal Aviation Administration as a Hazardous Materials Aviation Safety Inspector until September 2024. Most recently, he served as an Environmental Health and Safety Manager at HASA from January to December 2025.

Shawn's professional journey was defined by integrity and excellence. He was deeply respected by colleagues across all stages of his career—for his technical acumen, unwavering work ethic, and commitment to safety.

Beyond his professional achievements, Shawn was a man of many passions. As a homeowner, Shawn was quite the D-I-Y kind of guy, finding joy and 'challenges' in building and fixing things. Initially inspired by Jacques Cousteau, the US Navy provided Shawn rare opportunities to enjoy his love for scuba diving around the world and eventually allowing him to occasionally lend his skills to the Clark County Dive Rescue Team.

Shawn also loved the great outdoors, camping, and the joy & peace to be discovered in nature. Whether under the stars or navigating trails with GPS coordinates in hand, he enjoyed

sharing this joy, survival knowledge, and cooking on a campfire. He shared this passion as an Assistant Scout Master for local Boy Scouts of America, Scout Troop #310.

Shawn’s intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. As an avid reader of science, and science-fiction, he would eagerly explore galaxies far far away through books or comics, and no doubt, an occasional technical manual or a hazardous materials safety data sheet. Shawn collected vintage comic books including titles like X-Men, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, The Flash, Superman, Justice League of America, and of course, Star Wars. His nostalgia and imagination were also reflected by having shelves filled with Star Wars memorabilia, Battle Tech models, and intricate Lego sets... Basically, Shawn was a Sci-Fi Nerd.

Shawn is survived and deeply missed by his beloved wife Debbie; his children Alex, David, Avery, Micah, and Bella; his father Bruce; and siblings Rob, Heather, and Shannon. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Susan Jo.

A man of principle with a generous heart, sharp mind, and nerdy soul, Shawn left an indelible mark on those who knew him— whether through family bonds forged over time or friendships built through sea, land or air. 'Ooops', He did it again!

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”  – A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh)
