Rocky Hanes, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Battle Ground, Washington on May 27, 2026. Born on December 21, 1953, in Vancouver, Washington, he lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and a deeply grateful heart.
He spent his career as a skilled craftsman, eventually retiring from the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. His passion for building extended far beyond his profession; he truly loved his home and was happiest working on projects around the house. Whether he was building something new or completing a project like his new patio, he poured his time and care into creating a beautiful space for the people he loved.
Above all, family was his greatest joy. He cherished family trips and quality family time together. He lived by a simple, powerful conviction, often reminding those around him, "We are so blessed, and others have it so much worse." He faced life's challenges without complaint, choosing instead to focus on his blessings.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sherry Hanes, his sons, Rocky Hanes (Jodi) and Eric Hanes, his cherished grandchildren, Jayna Hanes, Rocky Hanes III, Alyssa Hanes, and Ethan Hanes. He also leaves behind his mother, Dolly Hanes, as well as two brothers, Monte Hanes and Cliff Hanes (Mari) and two sisters, Dolly Sullivan (Steve) and Lynn “Bambi” Lake (Dale) and numerous nieces and nephews .
A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 PM on June 28th at the Battle Ground Events Center. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories and honor his legacy.
