Philip Lee Troyer, 88, of Battle Ground, passed away peacefully Monday, October 20, 2025, at Cogir in Vancouver, Washington.

Philip was born June 22, 1937 to Martin Joel Troyer and Dena Catherine “Katie” Marner in Howard County, Indiana. He was the youngest of Martin and Katie’s seven children, raised as a farm kid and a member of Old Mennonite churches, with his family coming from an Amish background. After graduating from Middlebury High School in 1955, he completed alternative civilian service as a conscientious objector and married his sweetheart Marjorie Jean Quiring, who he met through church gatherings. Phil worked at Volkswagen dealerships first in Indiana, and then in Washington and Oregon after he and Marj moved west in the early 1960s, finally settling in Battle Ground in 1975. Phil spent the last twenty years of his career working for Clark County Public Utilities in the Grounds department.

Phil was a life-long learner, always looking to books for information on gardening, woodworking, history and current events. He enjoyed growing food and flowers in his garden and created a wide variety of items, from toys and puzzles to furniture, in his wood shop. He loved playing card and board games with family and friends, taking long road trips, and hiking through scenic areas. Some of his trips included driving to Alaska on the Alcan Highway, several trips to Arizona, and many to Indiana to visit family. After the eruption of Mount Saint Helens in 1980, he tried to make a trip each year around his birthday to see how the area was recovering, and enjoyed showing the area to visiting friends and family.

Phil’s kindness and patience were almost endless. He walked his faith every day, in every interaction whether it was with those close to him or complete strangers. He touched many lives with his willingness to help in any way he could. In his last years, as he valiantly fought against the effects of Parkinson’s disease, he remained optimistic and refused to give up.

Phil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie; and their children, Rodney Troyer and his wife Joy, Sharilyn Wallace, and Catherine Campbell and her husband Matthew; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Phil is also survived by his sister Miriam Showalter and her husband Bernard in Oregon, and sisters-in-law, LuRue Troyer in Arizona and Dawn Troyer in Michigan.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Katie Troyer; brothers Joel and his wife Mary Ellen, Willard, and Omar Troyer; sisters Almeda Hooley and her husband Paul, and Sylvia Roth and her husband Alan, and son-in-law James Wallace.

A Memorial Service followed by a Potluck Reception will be held at noon, Saturday, November 1, at Charter Oak Community Church, north of Battle Ground (12212 NE 299th Street), where Phil was an active long-time member. The Family will hold a small private Graveside service at Crawford Cemetery in the morning before the Memorial.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation.
