In Loving Memory of Nadine Constable
October 21, 1947 – October 24, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Nadine Constable on October 24, 2025, in Vancouver, Washington. Born on October 21, 1947, in Portland, Oregon, Nadine lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering faith.
She spent her early years on the family farm in Happy Valley, where her deep appreciation for nature and family first took root. Nadine graduated from Portland Union Academy (now Portland Adventist Academy) and briefly attended Walla Walla College. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Gordon Constable. Before Gordon was deployed to Vietnam, they married—an act of courage and devotion that defined their enduring bond. Nadine often spoke of the fear she felt during those uncertain days and the overwhelming joy when Gordon returned safely.
In 1973, Nadine and Gordon welcomed their only child, Monte. Nadine never tired of sharing the miraculous story of his birth—how doctors fought to save her life and were astonished when both she and her tiny baby, born at just 3 lbs 6.5 oz, survived. Monte was, at the time, the smallest baby born in Portland, and Nadine cherished every moment of motherhood.
Throughout her life, Nadine dedicated herself to serving others. She worked for a cab company, Columbia Adventist Academy, and ultimately spent 28 years with the State of Washington, helping those in need of food, financial support, and medical assistance. Her colleagues and friends remember her for her infectious laugh, quick wit, and boundless kindness.
Nadine found joy in the beauty of calligraphy, flowers, and ornate decorations crafted by her own hands. Her heart was fullest when surrounded by family—her beloved siblings, nieces and nephews, and later, her cherished grandchildren. Her faith in Jesus was her guiding light, and she lived each day with grace and compassion.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Marion and Wayne Bixel, and is survived by her devoted husband Gordon, son Monte, daughter-in-law Kate, grandchildren Beatrix and Theo, brothers Noel, Doug, Roger, Dan, sister Linda, sisters-in-laws Ruthanne, Marilyn, Judy, Susan and Rosie and many nieces and nephews from both the Constable and Bixel families.
A memorial service and reception will be held on November 14th at 12:00 PM at Gladstone Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 8378 Cason Rd, Gladstone, OR. Flowers may be delivered to the church starting at 10:30 AM, and condolences can be sent to kmconstable58@gmail.com.
Nadine would want each of you to know how deeply she cared. You are loved, valued, and held close in her heart. She had room for everyone—and love enough for all.
