Lorina Rosemary Haynes (Ricard), fondly known as Rose or Rosie by family and friends, was born on September 25th, 1939. She was the cherished eldest daughter of Wilfred and Lilly Ricard and older sister to Fred, Ed, Ted, Larry, Louie and Dolly Ricard.

Family was everything to Rose. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She came from humble beginnings, raised on a farm in the small town of Zillah in the lush Yakima valley. Her life was richly rooted in family love with a hearty dose of helping with the upbringing of her younger siblings, household chores that are naturally part of a large family, and working on the farm.

Rose was proud to have graduated top of her class from Kinman Business University. Her secretarial and office skills served her well over her lifetime, both personally and professionally as an executive secretary as well as a successful business owner and operator.

Rose married Alan LaPlaunt and had two sons, Jon and Joe. They lived an adventurous life on the Lookouts of Bully Choop Mountain and Pattymocus Butte in northern California. She returned to her Pacific Northwest roots, married her second husband, Don Billups, and had two daughters, Dawn and Julie.

Rose was passionate about her health and had a library full of books on the topic. This spurred her love of cooking and baking from scratch, providing just the right amount of love and nutrition into each curated meal for her family. She enjoyed sewing, even making clothing for her children and herself, though her love of fabrics exceeded the time and projects that she had in store for her collection.

Music was also something that gave her a lot of pleasure her whole life. She particularly loved her namesake flower, roses, and had a green thumb for growing them with her bushes producing a bountiful variety of blooms. It filled her with immense joy to sit outdoors and take in the fresh air and beauty of nature surrounding her.

Rose will be remembered with a smile as a sweet, gentle, kind and loving soul with a self-proclaimed strong willed Swedish side that matched her signature red locks, turning platinum with the cherished passing of time.

After a life well lived, she gained her angel wings in Battle Ground, Washington and was received into Heaven on May 12th, 2026 by her dad, mom, two brothers, spouses, son, “bonus son”/son-in-law and countless others.

She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, family and friends.

Rose had a generous heart and cared deeply for others. In her memory, donations would be appreciated to causes she held dear, including local homeless or veterans organizations of your choosing, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or PFLAG. A tree or flower planted in her honor in loving remembrance would also be a meaningful tribute to her life and legacy.
