Laurence was born to Louis and Hazel Frasier at Chelatchie Prairie near Amboy, WA. His father farmed and homesteaded the land on which he was born, and he lived there for 97 years. At an early age, Laurence was nicknamed "Spook" by his childhood friend, Kenny Downing, and he went by this name his whole life.
Spook grew up roaming the countryside and loved riding horses. His favorite horse was Nancy. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he served in the 160th infantry 40th division as a jeep driver. Before going to Korea, he spent time in Japan. He had fond memories of Japan and enjoyed talking about them. One of his favorite things to talk about was a Jeep driver obstacle course contest that he won! After returning home to Chelatchie Prairie from the Army, he went into logging where starting out as a shovel operator before he started driving log trucks. He worked for many companies during his years in logging including Brace Neal, Arny's, Ben Thomas, Downing Bros, Willson and Sutton, and Peacock. He also worked as a long haul trucker with Wayne Downing. He loved driving truck! In 1986, he suffered an injury while working in the woods, and he retired early. His love for operating equipment never left him, and he loved to work around his property with his pride and joy, a John Deere Cat.
Spook was a fixture of the Amboy community, and there was rarely a social event where he was not present. He belonged to the Moose, the Mt Valley Grage, the Elks club, the American Legion, and the Tum Tum Square Dancers club. He helped to form the volunteer Amboy fire department and was among the first firefighters to help serve the Amboy area.
Spook is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hazel Frasier, and by his wife, Mildred "Midge" Frasier. He leaves behind his daugher (Cindy Sutton), his son-in-law (Thomas Sutton), his grandsons (Louis and Sam Sutton), his granddaughter-in-law (Andrea Sutton), and his great grandchildren (Stacy and Sterling Sutton).
A special thank you to his senior caregivers Tracie Trump and Lyuba Frunza for helping him in his final years.
