Battle Ground

Kiersten Waldroupe, affectionately known as Kandi, illuminated the world with her vibrant spirit and relentless determination. Born on October 13, 1963, in Everett, Washington, Kandi's journey was marked by hard work and a fervent passion for life that made an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. She graced this earth until May 29, 2025, when she left us to embrace the eternal peace she so richly deserved, after bravely battling the challenges of renal failure.

Kandi was a woman who lived life on her own terms, channeling her energy into a myriad of ambitious endeavors. She was a fierce entrepreneur, successfully running multiple self-styled enterprises including a beloved restaurant, a custom soap and cosmetics business, a ceramics shop, and even a car dealership. Her work ethic was unparalleled; from the very moment she was able, she toiled tirelessly, weaving dreams into reality with the fabric of her determination.

Education played a significant role in Kandi's life, with studies at the University of Nebraska and Lower Columbia College for nursing. A testament to her commitment to helping others, she carried that same spirit of care and compassion into every aspect of her life.

Her personality was a marvel, a kaleidoscope of color and vibrancy that transformed any room she entered. Kandi was unflinchingly honest, her words a reflection of her genuine heart. Those fortunate enough to know her would find comfort in her authenticity; never would one have to guess her thoughts or feelings. She possessed a rare ability to touch and uplift lives, effortlessly winning over hearts across the globe. Her kindness was a beacon of light, a reminder of humanity's inherent goodness, while her humor sparked joy and laughter in the lives of her friends and family. No obstacle could dim her radiant spirit, nor could any adversity extinguish her ability to make others smile.

In her personal pursuits, Kandi reveled in the beauty of life’s simple pleasures. Her love for music was only rivaled by her affection for the beach, horses, dolphins, and the vibrant color pink. She found solace in basking under the sun's warm embrace and cherished the delicate beauty of flowers. Kandi dreamed of a sanctuary along the Hawaiian coast, a cabin where she could live carefree with her own black and white painted horse, toes buried deep in the sand, soaking in the sun's golden glow for the rest of her days.

Kandi leaves behind her devoted husband, James Waldroupe, and her beloved children: Krystal Kolibri of California; Justin Self of Grants Pass, OR; Kayla (Jon) Lauer of Grants Pass, OR; and John Self of Kelso, WA. Her family also encompasses stepchildren Tiffany and Kailyn Waldroupe, a sister, Laura (Tanya) Soma of Seatac, WA, a brother, Tony Randall of Spokane, WA, and a cherished legacy of grandchildren: Paige Gregory, Tabitha Gregory, Jackson Lauer, Joseph Lauer, Audra Self, and Ashelyn Renee. In addition to her family, Kandi's life was enriched by countless friends who were drawn to her warmth and light.

She is welcomed into the next life by those who departed before her, including her father, Julian Randall, her mother, Margaret (Peg) Soma, and her dear grandparents, George with Dorothy Costa, and Don with Edith Randall. Their spirits will embrace her in the joyous reunion of a family tied together by love.

Kandi Waldroupe was a rare gem whose essence will forever linger in the hearts of those she touched. A legacy of kindness, laughter, and audacious dreams remains in the wake of her passing, inspiring all to embrace life with the same fervor she did. Though her physical presence will be sorely missed, her spirit—unbound and free—will continue to shine brightly, nudging us to seek joy, spread love, and cherish every precious moment.
