Josephine Adele Wood passed away very peacefully in the early morning of April 14, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on February 22, 1933, in Whitehall, Montana.
Adele, her preferred name, grew up in Burien, Washington. As a youth, she loved to draw. She especially loved drawing in pencil and her beloved cat “Boots.” Her love of art, crafts and hobbies grew throughout her life. She was a gifted artist, quilter, seamstress with no end to the projects she undertook. She loved sharing and teaching her talents to many friends and family.
On June 6, 1952, she married her beloved husband, Marshall (Woody) Wood. Woody was enlisted in the Navy and the young couple were stationed throughout the U.S. and Hawaii prior to it becoming the 50th state. Adele was a stay-at-home mother to their four children. The longest duty station was in San Diego, California, where the family called home for 27 years.
Adele and Woody RVed around the continental US for 15 years before making Battle Ground their permanent home in 2003. They shared 57 years of marriage together before his passing in 2009.
Adele loved her family and friends fiercely and faithfully. Over the years, she was involved in church activities, tole painting classes, quilting groups and her beloved "Bereavement Girls” group after her husband’s passing.
Adele’s legacy is one of compassion, generosity, creativity and a love that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Adele is survived by her children, Sheryl (Wood) Moore of Vancouver; Gary Wood of Ramona, California; Rod U’Ren; Sandy (Wood) U’Ren of Vancouver; and Mark Wood of Three Forks, Montana as well as five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Adele is preceded in death by her husband, Woody; her sister, Margaret Kyle; her brother, Donald Kyle; her granddaughter, Krystal Moore and her daughter-in-law, Janice (Finney) Wood.
We will always love you mom, and we know you are looking down on us smiling and saying “love you back”.
