George Franklin Motis, Jr.

George Motis passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2026. He was at home surrounded by his wife Minnie, his son George Franklin Motis, III and hospice staff.

George was born December 7, 1937 to George Franklin Motis Sr., and Maxine Elizabeth (Schibbe) Motis in Kingman, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Motis.

After High School, George joined the United States Army. He served for six years in the Army during which time he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, in California and in the United States Pacific Command. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 20,1965. Following his enlistment, George resided in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he met Minnie Hamada-Pokipale. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1966 and welcomed son George Franklin “Frank” Motis III in 1967.

George had a 35 year career with LSG Sky Chef in-flight catering services at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu, Hawaii. When George retired, the family moved to Yacolt, Washington, to enjoy the quiet peaceful life he described as “Heaven on Earth.”

He is survived by his loving wife and son, niece Leah and her husband Paul Powers of Santa Cruz, California, cousin Joan Field and her children and grandchildren. He was beloved by his friends at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Yacolt, WA and many neighbors and friends in Yacolt and Honolulu.

George enjoyed music, especially the First Friday music at the Amboy Historical Museum. He loved country music and western movies, tending his garden, and traveling to his favorite place - Japan visiting his wife’s family.
