Frank H. Stanley Jr. June 7, 1928 – October 27, 2025
Frank Henry Stanley Jr. passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2025. He was the firstborn to Frank and Kathryn Stanley on June 7, 1928. Frank grew up in Woodland alongside his three siblings — brother Eugene and twin sisters Dorece and Dorene on family property. He attended Woodland Schools and graduated in 1946.
Frank proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, qualified as a sharpshooter, and was awarded a bronze star. He was the first in Clark County to be drafted. He quickly rose through the ranks in battlefield promotions as he spent 18 months serving on the front lines. His dedication, sense of duty, and work ethic earned him the respect of those he served alongside, as well as the name Sergeant Bear.
On June 4, 1954, after a brief courtship, Frank married the love of his life, Shannon Lehto. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and the values they cherished most. They shared a deep bond and enjoyed traveling to Reno together. Their partnership was one of devotion and a true testament to enduring love and companionship.
He worked for Weyerhaeuser and helped on the family dairy, later spending 24 years in Ridgefield with Pacific Wood Treating as a Treating Engineer before retiring in 1991. After retirement, Frank turned his lifelong passion for farming into his full-time pursuit. His love for the land and cattle became his legacy, one that he proudly passed down through his family. Beyond his own operation, Frank found fulfillment in mentoring other farmers in the community. He generously shared his knowledge of farming practices, cattle breeding, and pasture management. Many credit Frank’s guidance for helping them build successful farms of their own, ensuring that his values and dedication to raising quality beef cattle would live on for generations.
A 3rd-generation Woodlander, Frank was deeply devoted to his community. He served 44 years as a Fire Commissioner for Clark County Fire District 2 and was instrumental in adding a fire station to the North Clark County side of Woodland. He also coached Woodland Community Education basketball. A proud Beaver Booster, he rarely missed a game as long as he was able to attend, even traveling to district and state games with fellow boosters.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shannon of 71 years, his parents, and his brother Eugene and nephews Kenny and Kyle Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, April Chunn (Rick) of Woodland; grandchildren Amber Logan (Mark) of Houston, Staci Bourke (Jade) of Woodland, and Stanley Chunn (Angela) of Woodland; and six cherished great-grandchildren: Gracie & Gavin Shoemaker, Andrew & Katrina Logan, and Beau & Colton Chunn, and sisters Dorece Tyrell and Dorene Crocker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made toward the creation of the Frank Stanley Woodland High School Scholarship Fund. Donations can be sent to the immediate family, or for more information on how to give, please email randachunn@yahoo.com.
