Emma Marie (Gorden) Warnke, of Brush Prairie, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 14 at the age of 83 at Legacy Hospital in Vancouver, Washington, with her loving husband, Leonard “Lenny” Warnke, by her side.

Emma was born on March 9, 1943, in St. Helens, Oregon. She lived in various places in Oregon before moving to Seattle, Washington, where, at the age of 17, she was introduced to Lenny by her cousin, Harley Karlsen, who was a friend of Lenny’s.

After just a few short months, Emma and Lenny were married - Emma at 18 and Lenny at 19 - on April 1, 1961.

Emma and Lenny built their life together in Southwest Washington, where they raised their four children. Emma had an unwavering confidence in Lenny and always believed he could “do and fix anything.” They were members of the Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Emma’s faith was central to her life. She often spoke fondly of her blind Norwegian grandmother, whom she lovingly called Bestemor. Emma credited Bestemor with teaching her many important life lessons and, most importantly, with telling her about Jesus. Emma often expressed her faith and gratitude with the words, “Thanks be to God.”

Emma will be remembered for her love for Jesus and for the way she cared for others. She was always willing to pitch in and help, whether through cooking, baking, lending a hand, or simply taking the time to listen. She maintained many close friendships and was often encouraging someone through a difficult season of life.

Her legacy is one of faith, compassion, friendship, and service to others - a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched.
