David Robert Campbell, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2026, in Battle Ground, Washington. He was born June 30, 1935, to Robert W. and Anne K. Campbell in Los Angeles, California.
Growing up in Northern California, he learned from his parents to be a hard-working and industrious individual, always interested in the next endeavor. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Forestry, enlisted as a Lieutenant in the US Army, and after leaving active duty, worked for several years for the US Forest Service. Over the next few decades, he started a series of businesses, from forest management to road construction to computer sales and development. He also spent over thirty-five years involved with the local fire department, initially as a volunteer firefighter and eventually as a long-time Fire Commissioner with Clark County Fire District #3. His long service reflected his willingness to give back to his community. After retiring, he and Lucille traveled extensively through the United States, crossing the country several times in their RV, including driving to Alaska. He was a faithful member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille; his children, Brian (Dawn) and Barry (Lilliam); his grandchildren, Jesse, Keegan (Keeley), Jordan, Riley, Genevieve, Jasmine, and Galen; and his great-grandchildren, Henry and Noel. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Rogan.
Those who knew David will remember him as a man of quiet dedication and steady presence. He was not one to seek attention, but his life spoke clearly through his actions. He believed in service, and he lived that belief in practical and meaningful ways. David instilled in his family a lasting impression of self-reliance, curiosity, generosity, and civic responsibility. His family was an important part of his life, and his memory will live on in the many people whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held on October 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Heisson, with interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington.
