Anita Evelyn Hanisch, 80, of Battle Ground, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous fight against multiple health challenges. Born on June 4, 1945, in Long Beach, California, to Juanita and Floyd Cole, Anita's life was a vibrant tapestry of warmth, creativity, and unyielding devotion to those she held dear.

A graduate of Long Beach High School in 1963, Anita quickly found her footing in the world, starting as a telephone operator at Pacific Bell—where her bright voice and quick wit made every call a little brighter. It was during the turbulent days of the Vietnam War that fate introduced her to Dennis Hanisch, a steadfast U.S. Navy veteran who became the love of her life. They exchanged vows on May 18, 1965, embarking on a 59-year marriage filled with laughter, three children—Nita, Robert, and April—and countless adventures that proved love's quiet strength.

Anita's true masterpiece was her family, where she shone as an extraordinary mother, foster mom, wife, and "grandma" whose hugs could mend any heartache. Her home was a sanctuary of sincere hospitality: a steaming pot of coffee always on, a plate of homemade treats at the ready, and an open door for anyone adrift in life's storms. She had an uncanny gift for seeing the good in people, offering guidance wrapped in gentle humor that left you feeling seen and steadied.

Professionally, Anita's talents bloomed in unexpected ways. As her children navigated school, she transformed heads—and hearts—as a sought-after hairdresser at a local salon, turning routine appointments into storytelling sessions. To keep the family humming, she juggled shifts at Nation’s Burgers and Niles Cafe, where her smile was the best tip of all. Once the nest quieted, she poured her nurturing spirit into a beloved home daycare, creating a wonderland of crafts and cuddles for her grandchildren. Later, as a teacher's aide at St. Edward's Elementary and Newark Memorial High School, she touched young lives with her patience and passion, often staying late to help a struggling student unlock their spark. But Anita's soul found its deepest expression on canvas; for over 30 years, she immersed herself in folk painting, crafting hundreds of whimsical scenes—vibrant markets, cozy cottages, and wildflower meadows—that captured the joy she saw in everyday magic.

Anita was predeceased by her devoted husband, Dennis Hanisch (2023), and their cherished daughter, April Hanisch (2019). She leaves behind a legacy of love carried forward by her children, Nita (John) and Robert (Kelly); her seven grandchildren, Christian, Cameron, Craig, Nikita, Dillon, Tony, and Kalia; and her five great-grandchildren, Silas, Jamison, Katarina, Genevieve, and Leilani. In true Anita fashion, she reminds us: "Life's too short not to paint your own colors—boldly and with heart."

A funeral Mass and reception will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish in Vancouver, WA, with details to be announced soon. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Battle Ground, WA.
